Cosmetology Instructor

OBJECTIVES OF THE COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The NEWPORT SCHOOL OF HAIRDRESSING instructs and trains students to be qualified, licensed professional cosmetologist instructors.

The primary objectives in training the student are:

To instruct in the subjects of: The Challenge of Teaching, Characteristics of Teaching, Students and Learning, Developing a Course of Study, Planning for Effective Instruction, Methods and Processes of Teaching, Demonstration/Practive Methods, Instructional Aids, Evaluating Student Performance, Creating a Positive Classroom Environment, Conclusion: Reflection and Vision in Teacher Education.

To train the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful employment immediately following graduation and licensing.

To prepare the student for examination and licensing by the Rhode Island State Board of Cosmetology.

To maintain the nine high national standards proposed by the National Accrediting Commission of Arts and Sciences.

To keep students and faculty aware of all current trends in the beauty industry by using the most advanced teaching methods available.

The cosmetology instructor course consists of 300 hours in the theory and practice of teaching. The graduate may pursue a career as a Rhode Island Cosmetology Instructor upon passing the examination for licensing.

LENGTH OF COURSE
300 hours | 20 weeks | Monday through Saturday

 

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE
Part-time (Morning): Monday through Friday 9:00am – 1:00pm and two Saturdays
Part-time (Evening): Monday-Thursday-Friday 5:00pm – 9:00pm and two Saturdays
Saturday: 9:00am-1:00pm / 11:30am-3:30pm

TUITION: $2,800 ($200 down payment)
BOOKS & SUPPLIES: $200
REGISTRATION FEE: $100
TOTAL: $3,000*

* Total tuition will increase to $ 3,500 starting September 1, 2011.
